    Mad-libs

One of the guys at worked asked why, given how willing I am to spout off about politics, I wasn’t watching the pageantry at the DNC. This from Kerry’s acceptance speech is part of the reason:

Before wrapping themselves in the flag and shutting their eyes and ears to the truth, they should remember what America is really all about.

Please tell me he didn’t actually say that?

I don’t know. I was in the other room while he was giving his speech–wrapping myself in the flag and shutting my eyes and ears from the truth.
      ;p

I just hope that was enough to insulate you. I mean, I know the Republicans don’t give speeches of uninterrupted originality and wit, but…maybe it’s because being on the conservative end makes them more at home with ceremonial gesture. I just don’t seem to mind as much. When you’ve got people doing Native American versions of the national anthem (heard about that one second-hand, luckily), they’re setting themselves up to be judged by standards of unremitting quirkiness. Then again, who wants to see Kerry and Edwards try to be quirky? Oyoyoy.
