    Vacation

It turned out that I was able to take some of my pooled vacation time and appliqué it onto the end of the session I had to run for work in Bangkok this past weekend. A friend or two and I will be here in Thailand and Cambodia for the rest of the week, and from here I’m flying back to New York on Monday to see friends and then spend a few days with my parents and friends up and down the Mid-Atlantic. For reasons I hope I don’t need to go into, I’m taking a break from paying attention to Japanese news for a little while. Will probably be posting intermittently, but then that’s the only way I’ve been posting for a few months, anyway. Hope everyone’s doing well….

Sean, don’t forget your responsibility to keep up with the interesting news and provide erudite commentary so that those of us in Japan too lazy to read the newspaper can keep up with current events in our adopted country. Namakeru na!

Glad to see the posting here’s still as smart as ever, and I hope the vacation does you some good.

Thanks, guys. My friend and I spent the last few days at the beach, where our conversation reached such vertiginous heights of erudition as “It’s high tide. Have you been looking at the waves?” “Uh-huh. They certainly are wavy. Another Bloody Mary?” “Totally.” Once I get back to the States and have settled a bit, I’m sure I’ll be curious about Japan again.

      You’ll miss the green soda.

Actually–I’m in airline limbo between Cambodia and New York at the moment, so my stomach is somewhat in distrait–the food in Thailand is one of the best parts of going, green soda or no. We kind of did the colonialist thing in Angkor as far as food went, but it was very good, too.

I am so looking forward to leaving airports behind for a few weeks.
