    地震

Flamin’ Norah! That one was big somewhere. I guess we’ll know where in a few. Let’s hope it was offshore….

Added on 7 October: It was centered in Ibaraki Prefecture, 5 on the Japanese scale.

Yes, that certainly got my attention. Went on for a long time, too. Magnitude 5.7 on the Richter scale, and we had it full-bore here in Edogawa.

    2. Sean Kinsell says:

I guess you would have! (You mean you’re in Edogawa-ku, right? I suppose there could be a city called Edogawa somewhere closer to the epicenter.) With my crack timing, I was standing in front of my 6-foot bookshelf when it started. I skedaddled; as you say, the swaying kept up for a while, and the intensity didn’t lessen for a good ten or twenty seconds.

    3. Toren says:

      Yes, sorry: Edogawa-ku, Nishi-kasai.
I was in SF for the ’89 quake, too. That was a solid 7.0 and rather impressive.

    4. Sean Kinsell says:

Wow. Right near the bay, huh? (In Nishi-kasai, I mean–I don’t know where you were in SF.) Hope you’re at least above sea level.
